Peter Grove Interview
Transcript of audio clip
Yes, Bill, I referred a little earlier to divisiveness on the island and
it’s really something ..um.. that we need to address. Unfortunately this
is being fueled by what seems to be a concerted effort by some to discredit
the Trust and it’s poisoning the well and it’s leading to fear and suspicion
which is creating this divisiveness. It needs to be addressed and dealt
with and it will take time but I am quite certain that we can turn this around.
And how to do this…well the trust deals with land issues so we need to improve/simplify
and make fair and affordable the whole application process. And right now
it’s extremely complicated and difficult to understand, quite frankly, um,
we probably could, I would like to see an independent management review to
see how we can improve it.
We need open communication. People need to understand what it is that the
Trust is doing and have no fears that things are happening behind closed
doors. Some excellent person in/on the island right now, who is, on
HIS own time, videotaping the trust meetings and putting them on
a website. This should be formalized quite frankly, done by trust staff and
put on the trust web, so that we all know what is going on.
Um..I’d like to see a more relaxed Town Hall than we have now, at present,
if you go to a Trust Meeting, you get about an hour in the middle of the
meeting for the town hall. I’d like to see this once a month or every couple
of weeks in a more relaxed atmosphere in the evening, when people could come
and talk to trustees, discuss what their interests are and uh than what is
going on. And we do need to have easy access.
As a Trustee, I will be available more or less 24/7 although I’d rather not
get calls before 8 in the morning or after 8 in the evening. But I am going
to be here and I want you to be able to call and ask What on earth is going
on Peter, what or why are you doing this, why don’t you do that. We need
to develop confidence in the trustees. They need to be independent, not aligned,
non-conflicted in appearance as well as in fact. So whatever we do, we need
to have the right people for the job, to get back that trust.
My Comments
It seems to me that at the first All Candidates, Peter Grove knew nothing
about the fact that LTC meetings and public hearings were video taped. This
was one of the platforms of George
Grams and Mark Wyatt.
Grove seemed to catch on quickly that being for video recording may help him
get elected. He
does call me an excellent person (thank you) but gets my gender
wrong (HIS OWN TIME) since, I assume, this wasn't really something he knew
anything about or felt strongly about. Has he checked anything on this website,
or read about any of the issues?
He does seem to feel pretty strongly that there is a concerted effort by some
to discredit the Trust.
Does he think that people are complaining because they want to discredit the
Trust or that there are real problems and therefore people are speaking out?
Does he know that my videos are the evidence upon which the conflict petition
is based? Does being a nice guy who stays uninformed so that he can keep
an open mind make for
a good Trustee?
